Thickness affects how “visible” each fiber is and how much structure your fan has. In general:
- 0.03mm: ultra-light, airy look (great for mega volume style)
- 0.05mm: the most balanced “everyday volume” thickness
- 0.07mm: the most defined and bold volume look
Choose by the look your client wants
Look 1: Mega Volume (light, fluffy, airy)
If your client wants an airy mega volume look that still feels light, 0.03mm is usually the best starting point.
Look 2: Everyday Volume (balanced, wearable)
If your client wants a wearable volume set that looks full but not overly dramatic, 0.05mm is the safest choice. Many artists also find 0.05mm easier to control for consistent fans.
Look 3: Bold Volume (defined, darker, more dramatic)
If your client wants bolder definition and a more dramatic volume look, 0.07mm creates more structure and visibility.
Choose by your fanning method (this matters)
- Premade Fans: choose your density by D (3D–30D). Thickness + D together control the final look.
- Easy Fan / Blossom: 0.05 and 0.07 often feel easier for shaping on the strip; 0.03 looks airier.
- Dip-glue-release bloom styles: 0.03 and 0.05 are popular for cleaner, faster bloom control.
